The Former Site of the Balgadai Nutug Office

The Former Site of the Balgadai Nutug Office is a cultural relic protection unit of Horqin Right Wing Front Banner.

The Former Site of the Balgadai Nutug Office is located in the central area of Xing’an Village, Balgadai Town, Horqin Right Wing Front Banner, Horqin Right Wing Front Banner, Xing’an League, Inner Mongolia.

Balgadai Town in Horqin Right Wing Front Banner is one of the earlier revolutionary old bases where political power was established in Xing’an League, and it is the birthplace of the first Nutug democratic government in Xing’an League.

In June 1946, under the dispatch of the Xing’an Provincial Party Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Song Zhending, Jiang Birren, Pan Zusheng, and others formed a work team to carry out work in Balgadai Nutug, West Horqin Front Banner. The work team first confiscated the “civil police office,” disbanded it, reorganized the militia, formed a core team, and established the Nutug democratic government. Jiang Birren served as the deputy Nutugdar, and Pan Zusheng as the instructor of the core team. The work team mobilized the masses and successively struggled against several landlords with deep public resentment in Jiagou and Sanhetun, launching rent reduction and anti-tyranny struggles.

The reactionary landlord armed militia leader Zhao Yu and others had long harbored deep hatred for the mass movements stirred up by the work team and the newly established democratic government, and thus colluded with bandit leaders “Qingshan” and “Shuangshan,” former puppet police officers Li Zhendong, Li Zhenyuan, and local thugs Zhang Jiushan, among others, to stir up trouble. On September 23 and November 6, 1946, the reactionary landlord armed militias launched two armed attacks on the Nutug democratic government, resulting in the martyrdom of five comrades: Jiang Birren, Pan Zusheng, Wang Jinhai, Daonirubu, and Zhang Cai. This incident is historically known as the “Balgadai Tragedy.”

The original site of the Balgadai Nutug Office had deteriorated due to years of disrepair. In the spring of 2007, the Party Working Committee of the Balgadai Office rebuilt the former Nutug Office on the original site in its original appearance, restoring four offices as well as facilities such as walls, artillery emplacements, watchtowers, ammunition bunkers, stables, and millhouses.

In May 2010, the Former Site of the Balgadai Nutug Office was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit of the Banner by the People’s Government of Horqin Right Wing Front Banner.
