The Netherlands Open-Air Museum

The Netherlands Open-Air Museum is located in the suburbs of Arnhem, Gelderland Province. Established in 1912, it spans 44 acres and primarily showcases factories, farms, windmills, and residential buildings from various historical periods in the Netherlands. Here, visitors can step into buildings over 80 years old and learn about more than 250 years of historical changes in the Netherlands.

The farms and factories here are staffed by a variety of workers including artisans, farmers, fishermen, and blacksmiths. Through their explanations, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the Netherlands. Here, visitors can even participate in hands-on work and experience firsthand how the Dutch people of the last century used traditional methods to make paper, brew beer, and produce cheese. These items are sold in the museum’s gift shop. Visitors can also learn about the lives of Dutch fishermen and farmers, as well as the operations of old laundries, mills, and railway stations. They can even take a short ride on a historic tram for a simple journey.

The small shops in the open-air museum are very popular with children, where they can buy favorite items such as windmill models, cheese, and candy. The classic-style tavern attracts many sports enthusiasts.
