As is well known, wherever there are artworks, there will be forgeries. Some forgeries are so convincingly made that they are difficult for ordinary people to distinguish. There exists in the world a museum dedicated to collecting forgeries—not for the sake of the fakes themselves, but to teach people how to identify them and avoid being deceived by forgers.

Also known as the “Forgery Museum,” the Museum of Fake Arts is located in Arnhem, the capital of Gelderland Province in the Netherlands. It is the world’s first museum to collect, preserve, and exhibit forgeries. By studying these forgeries, the museum aims to help more people learn how to authenticate artworks. Its collection includes gold and jewelry, gemstones, luxury brand clothing, Rolex and Breitling watches, banknotes, coins, Egyptian mummies, the Portland Vase, Hitler’s diaries, sculptures, and oil paintings. Among them, many copies have been made of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting, the “Mona Lisa.”
