The highlights of the Capitoline Museum include Roman-era works imitating Greek style, such as the "Boy with Thorn" and the "Dying Gaul" from the 1st century BC, as well as Michelangelo's "Statue of Marcus Aurelius." The painting gallery on the third floor features works by artists like Titian and Caravaggio. The pavement of Piazza del Campidoglio is inlaid with exquisite geometric patterns, resembling a giant flower. Introduction The location of Piazza del Campidoglio is said to be the center of ancient Rome, where 25 temples once stood on the hill. The word "Capitoline" originates from "Caput" (head). Michelangelo designed this beautiful square, with three Renaissance buildings surrounding the floral-shaped plaza. The Baroque building at the front is Rome’s City Hall, flanked by the Capitoline Museum and the Palazzo dei Conservatori, collectively known as the Capitoline Museums.
