Borghese Gallery

Introduction: The Borghese Gallery was originally the villa of Cardinal Scipione Borghese, a patron of Bernini and a renowned art collector. This Baroque-style villa, built in 1613, was directly converted into an art museum. The exhibits center around his collection, with sculptures displayed on the first floor and paintings on the second floor.

The gallery houses a vast collection of works by Bernini, the most important of which include Apollo and Daphne, The Rape of Proserpina, and David, in which he modeled for himself. The second-floor painting collection features Raphael’s Entombment of Christ, Titian’s Sacred and Profane Love, and Caravaggio’s Danaë, among others.

Adjacent to the gallery, the Villa Borghese park was constructed at the same time as the villa. The garden is lush with trees and dotted with statues of great figures such as Rossini and Byron. In addition to the Borghese Gallery and the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, the park also offers amusement facilities such as a zoo and a riding school. From the Pincio Hill in the southern part of the park, you can enjoy a panoramic view of central Rome. Tickets/Opening Hours: Admission is €8.5, audio guide €5 (available in Italian, French, English, Spanish, and German). Opening hours: 8:30 AM–7:00 PM.
