Introduction: Baths were arguably the most important social venues in ancient Roman times, and the Baths of Caracalla were not only the largest baths in Rome at the time, but also the largest in the world.

The Baths of Caracalla were built in 217 AD and covered an area of 160,000 square meters. In addition to the 30,000-square-meter bathing area, the complex also featured various facilities such as libraries, an arena, promenades, and gyms—on par with any modern large-scale leisure center. The bathhouse was divided into cold, warm, and hot baths, as well as steam rooms and changing rooms. From the surviving mosaic-tiled floors, a 30-meter-diameter bathing pool, and walls as high as 30 meters, one can imagine the grandeur and the influx of distinguished guests during its heyday.
