Capitoline Hill

Capitoline Hill is one of the Seven Hills of Rome, Italy, and the highest among them. It served as an important religious and political center in the early days of Rome, situated between the Roman Forum and the Campus Martius. During the ancient Roman era, the hill hosted religious structures such as the Temple of Jupiter and the Temple of Veiovis, the Tabularium (Roman Record Office), as well as the Colossal Statue of Constantine I.

During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, palaces were built around the Capitoline Hill, designed by Michelangelo, including the Palazzo Senatorio (Senatorial Palace), Palazzo dei Conservatori (Conservators' Palace), and Palazzo Nuovo (New Palace), which now house the Capitoline Museums. Today, most of the ancient ruins are covered by these medieval and Renaissance-era palaces, with only a few foundation remnants remaining. The hill also features the Catholic church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli. The harmonious blend of architectural styles from different eras scattered across the hill presents a strikingly beautiful view, rich with the charm of ancient Rome.
