Palazzo di Propaganda Fide

Palazzo di Propaganda Fide is a palace located in Rome, Italy, and has been the seat of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (formerly known as the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith) since 1626. It was designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini. Since 1929, it has been an extraterritorial property of the Holy See.

Palazzo di Propaganda Fide is located in Rome’s Trevi district, at the southern end of Piazza di Spagna. Its south façade faces the Church of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, and its bell tower and bells are the work of Borromini. The main façade was designed by Bernini (1644), while the façade on Via di Propaganda was created by Borromini (1646). Pope Innocent X preferred Borromini’s style, and the construction was completed in 1667. The Chapel of the Magi inside Palazzo di Propaganda Fide is the work of Borromini; externally, a cornice separates the first floor from the noble floor. The façade of the palace, designed by Borromini, features pilasters and alternating concave and convex windows, giving it a unique and beautiful appearance. It is one of the most famous examples of Italian Baroque architecture and has served as a model for many subsequent European buildings.
