Milvian Bridge

Milvian Bridge is located in the northern part of Rome, Italy, spanning the Tiber River. During the Roman Empire, it was a bridge of great economic and strategic importance. Today, it is world-renowned for the metal locks symbolizing love that hang from it, earning the title of Italy’s most romantic love bridge.

Built in 206 BC, Milvian Bridge is the oldest bridge in Rome. It is 136 meters long, 8.75 meters wide, and has a maximum span of 18.55 meters. This historic bridge attracts couples from all over the world who come to visit Rome’s oldest bridge, admire the spectacular sight of thousands of “love locks” adorning it, and leave their own declarations of love. The lamp posts on the bridge are wrapped with iron chains holding several thousand “love locks,” the weight of which has even crushed the lights on two of the posts.

To relieve the load on Milvian Bridge, the Rome municipal government has installed six steel columns fitted with chains specifically for hanging “love locks,” while prohibiting the attachment of locks to the lamp posts.
