Château de Fougères-sur-Bièvre is located in the region of Fougères-sur-Bièvre in the Loir-et-Cher department of the Centre-Val de Loire region in France. It stands tall by the banks of the Bièvre River in the village square, about 15 kilometers south of Blois, at the heart of the Loire Valley castle complex. It embodies all the characteristics of a fortress castle: towering watchtowers, an entrance closely monitored by two arrow towers, battlements densely lining the walls, secret defensive doors, and more.

The original structure of Château de Fougères-sur-Bièvre was built in the 11th century and was almost entirely rebuilt in the late 15th century, with only the original large courtyard retained. The castle was initially constructed primarily as a defensive fortress, hence it features distinct military characteristics such as a moat, gunports, and wall walkways. However, the rebuilt Château de Fougères-sur-Bièvre incorporated many Renaissance elements, including mullioned windows and sloping roofs. In the 19th century, a textile factory was installed in the castle’s chapel. In the 1930s, the castle was purchased by the local government, which carried out extensive restoration work. Since 1912, Château de Fougères-sur-Bièvre has been listed as a historical monument by the French Ministry of Culture.
