The Château de Châteaudun is located in the town of Châteaudun in the Eure-et-Loir department of the Centre-Val de Loire region in central France. Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, it is a distinctive historical and cultural heritage site. Since its construction, the castle has undergone numerous renovations and expansions. Around 1170, it came under the ownership of Thibaut V of Blois; the Sainte-Chapelle annex was built between 1451 and 1493; the choir and small chapel were constructed from 1451 to 1454, while the nave and oratory were built between 1460 and 1464; the Duke of Dunois erected the annex on the west side of the main structure between 1459 and 1468; and the tall, prominent bell tower was constructed in 1493.

Today’s Château de Châteaudun exudes an air of mystery and retains its charm despite the passage of time. It mainly consists of the 31-meter-high, 17-meter-diameter keep, the Sainte-Chapelle, the Dunois Wing, and the Langeais Wing. The castle stands quietly on a massive protruding limestone rock by the Loire River, overlooking the surrounding land and waterways, telling the story of its importance as a defensive fortress in the early 12th century. Later, during the Renaissance, it was transformed into a comfortable residence. The roof of the keep features Gothic elements, most notably the carved staircase dating back to that era. Since 1918, the Château de Châteaudun has been classified as a French historical monument, and extensive restoration work was carried out in the 1930s. Today, as one of the most enchanting castles along the Loire River, it attracts a large number of visitors year-round.
