From 7000 BC to 4000 BC, Choirokoitia was one of the most important prehistoric sites in the Mediterranean region. The unearthed artifacts prove the site’s significant role in the development of human society. Only part of the site has been excavated, and many ancient relics remain to be studied in the future. On archaeological maps, one can clearly see that the entire territory of Cyprus is dotted with archaeological remains from various historical periods, dating back roughly to the Neolithic Age.

Here, visitors will find many excavated items that offer insights into the social life of the Neolithic inhabitants who lived around 7000 BC: defensive walls, circular buildings, and tombs. The Neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia is an exceptionally well-preserved archaeological site that continues to provide—and will continue to yield—valuable scientific information about the spread of world civilization from Asia to the Mediterranean. All the excavated and yet-to-be-excavated parts of the Choirokoitia Neolithic settlement clearly indicate the origins of early settlements in the Mediterranean and beyond.
