Yangon is located on the banks of the Yangon River in the Irrawaddy Delta, and is Myanmar’s largest city as well as the capital of Yangon Region. Before 2005, Yangon served as the capital of Myanmar, but on November 6, 2005, the capital was moved to Naypyidaw.

Yangon is a beautiful coastal city with a tropical vibe, featuring lush greenery and blooming flowers all year round, earning it the nickname “Garden City.” Wide, straight streets are lined with vibrant flower beds and tree-lined sidewalks, offering breathtaking natural scenery that lets you feel nature at every turn. The architecture in Yangon combines traditional Burmese styles with numerous Western-style buildings, where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly, forming one of the city’s most striking features. The urban area of Yangon boasts two picturesque lakes—Kandawgyi Lake and Inya Lake—both with crystal-clear waters shimmering under the sunlight, resembling two gleaming emeralds.

Yangon is home to countless stupas, either gilded or made of white stone. The most famous among them is the world-renowned Shwedagon Pagoda, which is the city’s most iconic landmark and a source of pride for the people of Myanmar. In addition, visitors can explore attractions such as Saint Mary's Cathedral, Bogyoke Aung San Market, Yangon Zoological Gardens, the National Museum of Myanmar, the Myanmar Gems Museum, and the Planetarium.
