Pankisi Gorge is located in the northeastern part of Georgia. It is a long, narrow valley that stretches from the northeast to the southwest. The gorge extends about 30 kilometers in depth, with the southern part being no more than 5 kilometers wide at its broadest point, and its northernmost end is just around 40 kilometers from the Georgian-Russian border. To outsiders, Pankisi Gorge is known as a daunting “valley of terror.”
