Vientiane

Vientiane is located in the middle reaches of the Mekong River and is the capital of Laos. Established in the 4th century BC, it has been the capital and economic center of Laos since the founding of the Lan Xang Kingdom in the 14th century and particularly during the 16th century. The city is one of the few capitals in the world situated near an international border and serves as Laos’ political, economic, and transportation hub.

Vientiane is a historic ancient city with a strong Buddhist atmosphere. Temples and stupas can be seen everywhere, making it a well-known tourist destination across Asia. The wide riverside boulevard runs across the entire city, lined with tall and short plants such as coconut palms, bananas, betel palms, longan trees, phoenix trees, and acacias, creating a pleasant contrast. Though it may not have the hustle and bustle of other major metropolises, strolling through Vientiane still offers a lively experience. Currently, the city preserves 34 temples, and these ancient Buddhist temples, exquisite stupas, and intricate carvings are valuable cultural heritage of ancient Laos, making them some of the most popular tourist attractions. Visitors can explore landmarks such as the Great Stupa, the Lao National Museum, the Patuxai Victory Monument, the Wat Ho Phra Keo (Emerald Buddha Temple), and the Wat Si Saket. A visit to Vientiane is definitely a wonderful journey.
