Osh

Osh is located in southern Kyrgyzstan, at the southeastern edge of the Fergana Valley near the mountain pass where the Ak-Buura River emerges. It is the second-largest city in Kyrgyzstan and the capital of Osh Region. With a history of over 3,000 years, the city became the administrative center of Osh Region in 1939.

Osh is regarded as the “second capital” of Kyrgyzstan and is a vibrant city thanks to its large and bustling open-air market — one of the biggest and most active in Central Asia. Jayma Bazaar, one of the largest markets in the region, offers a wide range of goods, from traditional handicrafts to imported items, and is especially lively on Sunday mornings. The Historical and Cultural Museum is an important site that showcases the city’s history and culture, featuring displays of ceramic fragments, ancient bricks, rocks, and numerous stuffed animal specimens.
