Pyongyang Arch of Triumph

Attraction Introduction

The Arch of Triumph was built to commemorate the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's victory in overthrowing Japanese imperialism's colonial rule, achieving the great cause of national liberation, and triumphantly returning to the homeland. It is situated at the scenic foot of Moran Hill, at the crossroads in front of the Kim Il Sung Stadium. The monument was erected in April of the Juche 71 year (1982) on the occasion of the 70th birthday of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung. The Arch of Triumph stands 60 meters high, is 52.5 meters wide on the front side and 36.2 meters on the side, with an arch that is 27 meters high and 18.6 meters wide. It is constructed from more than 10,500 granite blocks. The arch features bas-reliefs with the numerals "1925" and "1945", representing the year the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung embarked on his revolutionary path and the year of the national liberation and triumphant return. The murals include four sets of supplementary group relief sculptures. The inner frame of the arch's ornamentation is inscribed with the “Song of General Kim Il Sung”.
