Attraction Introduction The Grand People’s Study House stands against the backdrop of central Pyongyang and Kim Il-sung Square, situated on Namsan Hill. Its 34 hip-and-gable roofs, resembling a flock of cranes about to take flight, and the 750,000 subtly colored blue-gray tiles on the rooftops showcase the traditional Korean architectural beauty, making the building majestic and splendid. It earned its name as a large-scale venue for learning for all the people. The Grand People’s Study House opened in April of Juche 71 (1982) and was completed in just one year and nine months. The building has a total floor area of over 100,000 square meters, stands 63.56 meters high, is 150.8 meters wide, and 190.4 meters long, with 10 floors in total. The Grand People’s Study House houses 15 reading rooms, 14 lecture rooms, can accommodate over 10,000 people a day, and holds a collection of 30 million books.
