Sidon Sea Castle

The Sidon Sea Castle was built in 1288 by the Crusaders on a small island connected to the shore by a stone bridge. Many parts of the castle have been damaged, allegedly due to the Mamluks preventing the Crusaders from returning to the region later on.

The entire castle is made of stone, and it is neither very large nor very tall. Visitors can easily enter the castle via steps. Inside, it is cool, and one can look outside through narrow slits in various directions. There is a platform at the top of the castle where the Lebanese flag is flying. Below, near the sea, there is another platform close to where ships come and go from the port. Climbing to the top of the castle offers a panoramic view of the harbor and the ancient city of Sidon. Today, the castle mainly consists of two towers connected by walls, along with remnants of the defensive structures built at that time. The western tower is relatively well-preserved, with faint decorations still visible on the walls, allowing visitors to still appreciate the beauty of the castle from the surviving ruins.
