Aviary Cemetery

Introduction Situated on Malabar Hill, this is an aviary cemetery used by the Zoroastrian community. Aviary burial means placing the body in the cemetery for vultures to feed on until only the skeletal remains remain — a quite eerie scene.

There are five stone towers built in the aviary cemetery, known as the Towers of Silence. It is important to note that only Zoroastrians are allowed to enter these five towers; general tourists should not enter casually.
