Mumbai is located on Salsette Island off the western coast of Maharashtra, facing the Arabian Sea. It is the capital of Maharashtra and the most populous city in India, as well as one of the most populous cities in the world. Mumbai is not only dotted with Hindu temples but also many mosques and churches of Christianity and Catholicism, lending the city a rich religious atmosphere. The city’s iconic landmark is the Gateway of India, a symbol of India resembling France’s Arc de Triomphe. It is currently used to receive distinguished guests and has become one of India’s top tourist attractions.
