Taman Negara

Taman Negara is located at the border of Pahang, Kelantan, and Terengganu states in Malaysia. Established in 1938/1939, it was originally named King George V National Park. After Malaysia gained independence, it was renamed “National Park.” Since Mount Tahan is situated within its boundaries, it is also commonly known as Taman Negara.

Covering an area of 4,343 square kilometers, Taman Negara boasts the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, which has existed for 130 million years, dating back to the Cretaceous period. It is even older than the rainforests of the Congo and the Amazon, contributing to its remarkable biodiversity. The park’s ecological landscape has become a renowned tourist attraction in Malaysia, featuring various geological and biological sites. It offers captivating natural sights such as majestic waterfalls, naturally formed caves, the steep Mount Tahan, crystal-clear streams, and thrilling hanging bridges that beckon adventurers.

In addition to its breathtaking natural scenery, the park is home to many rare animal species, including the Malayan tiger, crab-eating macaque, Sumatran rhinoceros, great argus pheasant, red junglefowl, Indian bison, and Asian elephant.
