Malaysia’s surfing and sailing competitions to kick off in January

While Taiwan is hit by freezing winds, the summer-like water activities in Malaysia continue full steam ahead. In January 2012, water sports stars from across the globe will converge in Malaysia. The 2012 International Surfing Competition will take place from January 6 to January 8 at Cherating Bay in Pahang. The sunshine, sea, and rolling waves of Cherating Bay are calling out to surfers worldwide to conquer its mighty swells.

Another international-level water event will follow on Langkawi Island, which boasts internationally renowned resorts and stunning natural scenery that attract many celebrities to stay or film there. From January 11 to January 15, professional sailors from around the world will gather for the Royal Langkawi International Regatta, riding the waves in this holiday paradise known for its crystal-clear blue waters and pristine white sandy beaches.

Additionally, Malaysia and Singapore are connected by the Johor-Singapore Causeway, with Johor Bahru, the capital of Johor state, located right at the junction. A shopper’s paradise, Johor Bahru is home to the newly opened Johor Premium Outlets in December 2011, the largest shopping mall in Southeast Asia, featuring over 80 international fashion brands. Shoppers can enjoy discounts of 25% to 65% every day at these stores, making it a new must-visit destination for travelers coming to Malaysia.
