Coconut Shell Cave

Coconut Shell Cave is located in Kampar Town in the western part of Perak, Malaysia. It is a completely natural limestone cave that stretches from east to west, approximately 2 kilometers in length, and is one of Malaysia’s most magnificent and spectacular white marble and limestone karst cave systems. The dome of the cave resembles five giant coconut shells, hence the name "Coconut Shell Cave."

There are two ways to explore Coconut Shell Cave: by land or by water. The land route involves entering via installed wooden bridges and then proceeding along developed mountain trails and stone steps. The water route is an adventure path where the water reaches chest-deep in some areas, offering a thrilling experience preferred by adventure enthusiasts. Water exploration must be conducted with a guide; otherwise, it's easy to get lost in the winding cave passages. Inside the cave, it is pitch dark, but lights are installed throughout, so it isn’t very dim. During the tour, you’ll need to climb over 700 man-made steps, which are quite steep but fairly safe.

Coconut Shell Cave was once a hideout for the Malayan People’s Anti-Japanese Army, and murals left behind by the resistance fighters can still be seen in the cave today. The stalagmites and stalactites inside take on curious shapes—such as elephants, tigers, a lady’s foot, an old man’s head (symbolizing longevity), and ghost faces. Under the illumination of the lights, their forms appear even more lifelike and expressive.
