There are various legends about the construction of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is said that the temple was built in 1383 and later expanded with the addition of several shrines. The pathways leading in four directions were constructed in 1935, allowing visitors to quickly ascend to the mountaintop to visit the temple. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is one of the most famous and enchanting temples in Thailand. As you climb the 309 steps to reach the temple, you are greeted with a breathtaking view of Chiang Mai’s beautiful cityscape and the surrounding countryside. The most renowned feature is the golden chedi that enshrines a revered Buddha statue.
