Mount Palgongsan is a high mountain that extends from downtown Daegu Metropolitan City to areas such as Yeongcheon in North Gyeongsang Province and Gunwi County. Centered around Birobong Peak, which stands at an elevation of approximately 1,192 meters, the mountain features Dongbong (East Peak, 1,155 meters) and Seobong (West Peak, 1,150 meters) standing side by side. Administratively, the mountain lies within the boundaries of four cities and counties—Yeongcheon and Gyeongsan in Daegu Metropolitan City, and Geochang and Gunwi—and covers a total area of about 122.08 square kilometers.

Mount Palgongsan is beautiful all year round, offering diverse and ever-changing scenery. In spring, azaleas bloom vibrantly; in summer, the forest is lush and green; in autumn, the mountains are covered in vibrant red maples; and in winter, the landscape is adorned with glistening snow and ice. As visitors stroll through the mountain, they can relax and enjoy the splendid natural scenery. In addition, Mount Palgongsan has a rich cultural and historical atmosphere and has long been regarded as a sacred mountain. As early as the Silla Dynasty, Buddhist activities were held here to pray for peace and prosperity in the nation. The valleys are home to ancient temples with a thousand-year history, such as Donghwasa Temple and Bongjeongsa Temple, along with numerous Buddha statues, pagodas, and cliff carvings, making Mount Palgongsan one of Korea’s renowned centers of Buddhist culture.
