Gyeongsang Governor's Office Park

Gyeongsang Governor's Office Park is located at 21 Bupjeong-dong, Jung District, Daegu Metropolitan City, South Korea. It was originally the administrative office of the Gyeongsang Governor's Office during the 34th year of King Seonjo of Joseon (1601 AD). From 1910 to 1965, it served as the office building for North Gyeongsang Province, and in 1970, the first central park in Daegu was built on the former site of the office building. In 1997, to preserve the city’s aesthetic appeal, the surrounding walls were removed and the park underwent renovations, turning it into a historical landmark that reflects Daegu’s heritage and provides a space for locals to engage with their cultural legacy.

The park still preserves historic cultural assets such as the Seonhwadang Hall (Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 1), the former office of the Gyeongsangdo Governor, the Cheongryeonggak Residence (Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 2), where he lived, and the stele commemorating the governor’s good governance. Among these, Seonhwadang is one of the few surviving government office buildings in Korea, holding high research value. It features a single-story octagonal tiled roof structure with six bays facing the front and four on the sides, exuding an old-world charm. In addition, the park boasts lush greenery, beautiful wildflower meadows, spacious lawn plazas, as well as recreational facilities such as fountains, walking paths, and benches. It serves as a great summer retreat; with elegant music playing throughout the grounds, visitors can stroll through the park and almost forget the summer heat.
