Jeonju Hyanggyo

Designated as Historic Site No. 379, Jeonju Hyanggyo is a Confucian school from the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910) that served the Jeonju region. A hyanggyo was a national educational institution where students studied during the Joseon era. Originally located near Gyeonggijeon Shrine, Jeonju Hyanggyo was relocated to its current site in 1603.

The hyanggyo enshrines memorial tablets of Confucius and six other Chinese Confucian scholars, as well as 18 Korean sages. In addition to the Daejeongjeon Hall, where the tablets are housed, Jeonju Hyanggyo consists of 16 buildings in total, making it quite expansive.

Directions: 1. From Jeonju Express Bus Terminal and Jeonju Intercity Bus Terminal: When departing from Jeonju Express Bus Terminal, get off at Korea National Open University; when departing from Jeonju Intercity Bus Terminal, take city buses No. 79-2, 88, 88-1, or 126 bound for Namseong Market from the Gimam Rotary, and get off at Jeondong Cathedral Station (takes 20–30 minutes). Then walk for about 10 minutes. 2. From Jeonju Station: Take city buses No. 111 or 163 bound for Riviera Hotel, and get off at Jeondong Cathedral Station (takes 20–30 minutes). Then walk for about 10 minutes.

Notes: Hours of operation — March to September: 09:00–18:00; October to February: 09:00–17:00. No days closed.
