Gyeonggijeon Hall

Designated as Historic Site No. 339, Gyeonggijeon Hall was built in 1410 to enshrine the portrait of King Taejo, the founding monarch of the Joseon Dynasty. The hall houses the main shrine where the portrait of King Taejo is displayed, as well as the Joengheong Shrine, which enshrines the memorial tablets of Lee Han, the progenitor of the Jeonju Lee clan, and his wife. During the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598), a war triggered by foreign invasion, Gyeonggijeon Hall was damaged, and the current structure was rebuilt in 1614. In addition to King Taejo, the hall also enshrines portraits of other Joseon Dynasty monarchs, including King Sunjo, King Cheoljong, and King Yeongjo, along with various royal palanquins on display. Among them, the sacred palanquin used for relocating the royal tablets and the official palanquin used by high-ranking officials during inspections are particularly noteworthy. As a filming location for historical dramas such as "Tears of the Dragon" and "Empress Ki," Gyeonggijeon Hall has gained increasing recognition along with the popularity of these TV series.

Directions: Jeonju Express Bus Terminal & Jeonju Intercity Bus Terminal – From the Jeonju Express Bus Terminal, get off at the bus stop in front of the Korean National University of Broadcasting; from the Jeonju Intercity Bus Terminal, take city buses No. 211, 221, 231, 251, 220, 229, 241, 291, 501, 502, 700, etc., heading toward Nambu Market from the Geumam Rotary, and get off at Jeondong Cathedral Station (takes 20–30 minutes). Then walk for about 5 minutes. Jeonju Station – Take city buses No. 118, 119, 211, 221, 231, 241 heading toward Riviera Hotel, and get off at Jeondong Cathedral Station (takes 20–30 minutes). Then walk for about 5 minutes.
