Jeonju Hanok Village Living Experience Hall

The Jeonju Hanok Village Living Experience Hall is located in Wansan District, Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, South Korea, and opened to the public in 2002. This experience hall recreates the architectural style of yangban (the aristocracy during the Joseon Dynasty who lived in the eastern and western parts of the capital city) residences from the Joseon era, striving to offer visitors the most authentic opportunity to experience life in a hanok.

Also known as “Sehwa Gwan,” which means “aspiration for harmony around the world,” the Jeonju Hanok Village Living Experience Hall features a Confucian scholar’s sarangchae (outer quarters) room furnished with various items and stationery that allow visitors to experience the life of a scholar from that time. The anbang (inner quarters) in the women’s area recreates the inner rooms of a yangban household. The main hall, “Dogyeongru,” is equipped with a slide projector and sound system, allowing it to be used as a meeting room, thereby adding to the versatility of the experience hall. In addition, the Jeonju Hanok Village Living Experience Hall also offers a variety of hands-on programs such as crafts, etiquette, music, and food experiences, and hosts traditional weddings, banquets, and various lectures. These efforts not only contribute to preserving Korean traditional culture but also attract an increasing number of visitors.
