Fukuoka was once a gateway for international exchange, and the permanent exhibitions at Fukuoka City Museum focus on the city’s history and people’s lives.

Located in Hakata Bay, home to Fukuoka’s iconic structures such as Fukuoka Tower and Yahoo Dome, Fukuoka City Museum serves as a hub for historical and cultural tourism. Here, you can learn about the city’s history as a crossroads of Asian exchange since ancient times, view the national treasure "Golden Seal" often featured in textbooks, and see the renowned "Nihon" spear from the Kuroda Festival.

Fukuoka City Museum has two floors: the first floor houses a learning and experience room and a lecture hall, while the second floor contains three types of exhibition rooms—permanent exhibition room, planned exhibition room, and special exhibition room. The permanent exhibition room introduces Fukuoka’s history and folk culture, offering insights into the city’s past and the lives of its citizens as a window to the outside world through the ages. The planned exhibition room features independent thematic exhibitions related to the history, folklore, and culture of Fukuoka and Japan. The special exhibition room hosts various large-scale thematic exhibitions, with content changing every two months. Other exhibition rooms also offer a variety of learning and experiential facilities. Notably, the learning and experience room displays toys, clothing, musical instruments, and more from Asia, especially Kyushu, allowing visitors to interact directly and experience the region’s history and culture firsthand.

Opening Hours:

Tuesday–Sunday: 9:30–17:30 (last entry at 17:00), closed on Mondays (if Monday is a holiday, the museum is closed on the following day), and closed during the year-end and New Year holidays (December 28 – January 4).

Standard Ticket Price: 200.0 JPY

General admission to the permanent exhibition is 200 JPY, 150 JPY for high school students, and separate pricing applies for the special exhibition room.
