Hosogake Onsen is located in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, which spans Aomori, Iwate, and Akita prefectures in the northeastern region of Japan, at an altitude of over 1,000 meters, and is a well-known hot spring resort in the area. Legend has it that two beautiful women once leapt off a cliff here after vowing to reunite in their next life for the love of the same man, giving rise to Hosogake Onsen.

Hosogake Onsen is a sulfur spring known for its therapeutic benefits in treating gastrointestinal diseases, neuralgia, joint pain, and rheumatism, hence the old proverb “Ride to Hosogake Onsen on horseback, walk back.” The Hosogake Onsen ryokan offers seven different types of baths, each with unique effects: the “Box Steam Bath,” where you soak with only your head sticking out from a wooden box; the “Volcanic Bath,” where bubbling water beautifies your skin; the “Mud Bath,” which wraps your whole body like a wet compress for skin rejuvenation; the “Neuralgia Water,” which warms your entire body; the “Sauna Bath,” which uses natural steam; the “Massage Water,” which has outstanding massage effects; and the “Dew Pond.” Visitors can choose according to their personal needs and preferences upon arriving at the ryokan.
