Iwayama Park

Iwayama Park is located at the summit of Mt. Iwayama in Morioka, the capital city of Iwate Prefecture in Japan’s northeastern Tohoku region. With an elevation of 343 meters and just a few kilometers from the city center, it is one of the best spots to enjoy the night view of Morioka.

The park has an observation deck that offers sweeping views of Morioka’s streets, Mount Iwate, the Ou Mountain Range including Mount Hachimantai and Mount Hayachine, as well as the Kitakami Mountain Range featuring Mount Korekami. The scenery is truly spectacular. The mountainsides of Iwayama are lined with many trees, making it a great place to admire autumn foliage. In addition, there is the famous “Takuboku Poetry Path” around the summit, which has been restored. It is said to be named after the renowned Japanese poet Takuboku Ishikawa, who often gazed at his hometown from this spot. Along the “Takuboku Poetry Path,” there are ten stone monuments inscribed with poems by Takuboku Ishikawa, nestled among birch and oak trees. It’s a highly captivating area where nearly every visitor stops to read the verses on the monuments.
