Morioka City is a city located in the central inland area of Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and serves as the prefectural capital of Iwate. It is the largest city in the Northern Tohoku region. This is a city with a long history and beautiful nature, and as the central city of Northern Tohoku, it is now growing dynamically and rapidly.

Morioka City developed as a "castle town" centered around Morioka Castle, which was built between the 16th and 17th centuries. The ruins of the castle have become present-day Morioka Castle Ruins Park, providing an excellent recreational space for local citizens. The city retains many historically valuable buildings such as merchant homes and residences built between the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, preserving the unique tranquility and harmony of the city known as the "City of Forests and Water." This contrasts sharply with the modern high-rise buildings and shopping arcades that line the area around the station. Iwate Mountain Park is the most famous park in Morioka City. From its observation decks, you can not only view the cityscape of Morioka, Mount Iwate, and Mount Himekami but also gaze out over the Ou Mountain Range. In addition, visitors can explore the Ishiwarizakura (Stone-Splitting Cherry Blossom Tree), the Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum, the Morioka City Sosen Memorial Museum, Tsugunai Onsen (Hot Springs), the Morioka Teshimono Village, and Tōraku Temple.

Morioka City is famous for its noodles and is known as the "Capital of Noodles." There are three signature types of noodles referred to as the "Three Great Noodles of Morioka": wanko soba, Morioka reimen (chilled noodles), and Morioka jajamen (noodles with minced pork topping). In addition, imo-ko no yu (sweet potato dumpling soup) is also a must-try dish.
