Ichinoseki City

Ichinoseki City is a city in Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Honshu, Japan. It is located at the southern end of the Kitakami Plain, at the confluence of the Hanamaki River and the Kitakami River, and was established as a city in 1948. This is an ancient town known for its Mugusa swords, which are said to be the origin of Japan's samurai swords.

Ichinoseki City is the second most populous city in Iwate Prefecture after Morioka. In addition, it is also home to the Ichinoseki National College of Technology. Notable tourist destinations here include the Ichinoseki Onsen Village, which consists of seven hot springs, offering a variety of water qualities and scenic beauty, making it a perfect spot for a hot spring getaway. Yanmigawa Gorge is located to the southwest of the city, stretching two kilometers and renowned as the “Most Beautiful Valley in Japan.” The fast-flowing river cuts through giant rocks in the valley, forming many steep and uniquely shaped rock formations. The best way to view Yanmigawa Gorge is from above; standing on the observation bridge allows you to take in the breathtaking scenery of rugged gray rocks intertwined with clear streams.

If you have enough time, other sites worth exploring in detail include the Nioh-zaka Gorge, Yuugen Cave, Meotoiwa Rocks, Mount Kurikoma, the Roku-dōzan Memorial Hall, Tsuribayashi Park, the Ichinoseki City Museum, and the Hanamaki Ruins.
