Since ancient times, people have used their hands, fire, and natural materials to make pottery. These crafting techniques and knowledge have been passed down through generations, becoming part of cultural heritage. The residents of Okinawa inherited and developed ancestral techniques, and through exchanges with neighboring countries’ pottery cultures and skills, they formed a unique pottery culture in Okinawa. The Tsuboya Pottery Museum displays approximately 300 items related to the history of Okinawan pottery and the methods of Tsuboya pottery production, as well as ruins of kilns excavated during the museum's construction. These materials and the ruins reconstruct the development history of Tsuboya pottery, its significance in Naha, and its production methods. As you walk through the museum, you can almost see the artisans of Tsuboya at work in those times.
