? Chinen Misaki Park
Okinawa Prefecture · Nanjo City

Chinen Misaki Park stands majestically where sea meets sky
There’s a saying that you truly fall in love with a place when no matter how many times you visit in a year, it never feels like enough. I think we’ve come to understand that in Okinawa. From the vibrant summer sun to the winter holidays, and through the transition of spring to summer, we’ve slowly taken in Okinawa’s ever-changing scenery and feelings. In late spring to early summer, the sun isn’t scorching overhead, the slightly cooler sea breeze blows, yet the sea and sky remain endlessly captivating.
The southern part of Okinawa is an area that sees relatively few tourists, but it actually boasts many highly recommended spots — especially suitable for addicts like us who keep returning because we love Okinawa. There aren’t many commercial shops here, but rather pristine natural beauty, and an even greater lack of crowds. The tranquility is so complete that every moment feels healing.

Coming to the south, besides spots we've previously introduced like Shinbaru Beach and the nearby World Heritage site Sefa Utaki, there’s another incredibly soothing natural wonder: Chinen Misaki Park. Located in Nanjo City in southern Okinawa, Chinen Misaki Park features vast ocean views and clusters of dark brown rocks. It’s a seaside park where you can take in the view of the uninhabited island Komaka and the legendary Kudaka Island. The park is actually situated right next to Sefa Utaki, with the two attractions just a 10-minute walk apart. After parking, follow the path where coastline and skyline blend into one stunning view — the park's signature feature is exactly this panoramic seascape and natural elements. Keep walking until you reach a bend, then descend via stairs. When you suddenly encounter the wide-open scenic view, you’ll know you’ve arrived.

What greets your eyes is a breathtaking, unobstructed sea view from above, surrounded by scattered trees. The full staircase pathway is encircled by a vast expanse of flat green lawn. As you walk down, you get closer to the sea. With its slight incline, the downward staircase gives you the illusion of stepping into the ocean. On closer inspection, you’ll notice that the color of the sea changes with the sunlight, but no matter the hue, the water remains crystal clear. Still waters reveal gentle flows, while waves crash against reefs of all sizes, creating beautiful splashes. Above, the sky’s clouds shift shapes with the breeze.

The best thing to do now is to sit on a park bench, or casually on the grass, under the shade of a tree, bathed in sunlight, listening to nature’s breath, gazing at the seascape that looks like a painting, and enjoying the simplest kind of happiness that Okinawa offers.

? Kin Town
Central part of Okinawa Main Island
Kin Town is located in the central part of Okinawa Main Island, neighboring Yomitan Village, Uruma City, with Onna Village to the northwest and facing the Pacific Ocean to the southeast. Due to the nearby U.S. military base, the area is lined with vividly colorful and lively signs and painted walls. During the day, it appears as a quaint and quiet little village, but as night falls, bars and burger joints begin to open, transforming the streets into a completely different scene.

One thing you absolutely must try here is taco rice. When you hear taco rice, you might first think of Mexican cuisine, but taco rice actually originated in Okinawa — and its birthplace is Kin Town. The very first establishment, Parlor Senri, was the original specialty taco rice shop developed for American servicemen. It has since closed, but its legacy continues with its sister store, KING TACOS Kin Main Store, which carries on the original brand, serving the steady stream of travelers and Americans from the military base.
? Taste authentic taco rice in Okinawa
The classic way to enjoy taco rice is to pour taco meat sauce over white rice, top it with generous amounts of cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and other vegetables, and finish it off with salsa sauce. Its unique texture and hearty filling have made it an enduring favorite. Taco rice culture is gradually spreading throughout Okinawa Prefecture, especially in Kin Town’s shopping street area, where numerous restaurants serve the dish. If you’re in Okinawa, especially in taco rice’s birthplace Kin Town, it’s highly recommended to try this local specialty.

In addition to the signature taco rice, the cheesy taco rice bursting with rich cheese aroma or the lighter vegetable cheese taco rice is also highly recommended. And don’t underestimate the portion size—it’s definitely enough to satisfy your growling stomach. Oh, and don’t forget to drizzle on the restaurant’s homemade taco sauce to fully enjoy this local delight full of American flair.

Kunigami Town Transportation
If you’re coming from Naha via the Okinawa Expressway, it takes about 45 minutes to reach the Kunigami Interchange. Driving on regular roads takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. From Nago, it takes about 20 minutes on the expressway or around 35 minutes on regular roads.
?Okinawa Travel Tips
At night, you may occasionally spot drunk American soldiers in Kunigami Town. It’s best to travel with companions to avoid any misunderstandings or harassment.
Unlike the main urban areas of Okinawa, this place is full of vibrant colors—whether it’s restaurants, burger joints, or taco rice spots, their signs and interiors are colorful, making it a great spot for photos and enjoying international cuisine.
