Pineapple Park

The red, acidic soil of northern Okinawa is particularly suitable for pineapple cultivation, making pineapples from this region famous since ancient times. Nakijin Pineapple Park is an over 80-year-old pineapple farm that initially grew and sold pineapples. In 1992, it became home to Japan’s first pineapple distillery. The farm has now been transformed into an amusement park, currently growing over a hundred varieties of pineapples and nearly a thousand types of tropical plants. Visitors can ride the Pineapple Tour Bus to view different pineapple varieties and the rarely seen pineapple flowers, as well as observe the production processes of products such as pineapple juice. The park also includes a shell exhibition hall, formed through the merger with a nearby shell museum.

Pineapple Tour Bus: The ride lasts approximately 10 minutes, is fully automated, and each bus accommodates 6–8 passengers. Commentary is available throughout the tour in Japanese, Chinese, English, and Korean. A hidden camera among the pineapple plants takes pictures of visitors during the ride; photos can be purchased for 1,500 yen, including a frame.
