Miyakojima

Miyakojima is the main island of the Miyako Islands, located in the Pacific Ocean about 300 kilometers southwest of Okinawa’s main island. The island is formed from uplifted coral reefs, so the entire land is relatively low-lying. With crystal-clear waters, it is ideal for various marine activities including scuba diving. Here, an annual triathlon competition is held in early summer, and the professional baseball spring training camp is also quite famous.

The island is surrounded by seven smaller islands. Among them, Ikeijima and Kurima Island are connected by a bridge, where you can rent a car or bicycle to enjoy sightseeing. Cape Higashi-hennazaki, located at the northern tip of the island, offers a wide-open view where you can see Ikeijima to the north, Irabu Island to the west, and nearby coral reefs. At the eastern end of the island, around Cape Tōhō-zaki, peculiar rocks rise above the coral reef sea, creating breathtaking scenery.

Transportation

It takes approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Miyako Airport, and about 2 hours and 35 minutes from Kansai International Airport.
