Ishigaki Island

Ishigaki Island is located about 420 kilometers southwest of Naha on Okinawa’s main island and is the main island of the Yaeyama Islands. It is said that houses on the island are surrounded by stone walls to protect them from typhoons, which is how the island got its name, “Ishigaki,” meaning “stone wall.” The island has a circumference of about 90 kilometers and is characterized by its many mountains, including Okinawa’s highest peak, Mount Omoto.

Ishigaki Island boasts numerous marine attractions. The crystal-clear waters off Shiraho are home to vibrant coral reefs that attract worldwide attention, while Kondoi Bay features some of the bluest waters in all of Okinawa. This lush expanse of primeval jungle, complete with mangroves and other tropical plants, hosts a unique and precious ecosystem found only on the island.

Transportation

It takes approximately 3 hours and 25 minutes to fly from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Ishigaki Airport, about 2 hours and 50 minutes from Kansai International Airport, and around 1 hour from Naha Airport.
