Hibiya Park

Hibiya Park is located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo Metropolis, Japan, and is managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association, a foundation under the jurisdiction of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Construction Bureau. Established in 1903, the park covers a total area of 161,636.66 square meters. It is a Western-style modern urban park built according to Japan’s first city plan and is also one of the primary parks where residents of Chiyoda Ward go for walks and recreation.

Hibiya Park was once a military training ground for the Imperial Guard Division during the Meiji era. Later, it was designed by Honda Seiroku and opened on June 1, 1903, becoming Japan’s first modern park in the German style. The park houses public facilities such as the Civic Hall, Hibiya Public Hall, large and small open-air music halls, Hibiya Library, and tennis courts, as well as green lawns, colorful flower beds, and historic features preserved since the Edo period like the Shinji Pond and ginkgo tree groves. Red flowers and green grass are set off against white fountains, creating poetic scenery all year round. The park frequently hosts various large-scale events; the first (1954) to fourth (1957) editions of the Tokyo Motor Show (originally named the Japan Automobile Show) were held here.
