Hawke's Bay

Hawke's Bay (Hawke’sBay) is situated between the Mahia Peninsula and Cape Kidnappers on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, retaining the former name of Hawke Bay. The bay spans 80 kilometers in length and 56 kilometers in width, with five rivers flowing into it. The northern shore features the Port of Wairoa, while the southwestern shore includes the Port of Napier. For travelers, visiting Hawke's Bay—renowned as the wine capital—offers a visually and sensorially enriching experience. It is New Zealand’s premier wine-producing region. The area boasts numerous Art Deco buildings and hosts grand celebrations for Matariki (Māori New Year) every year. In addition, Hawke's Bay is known for its culinary industry and beaches stretching from the Mahia Peninsula in the north to Plangauehu in the south. The scenic beauty of Hawke's Bay ranges from the forested Ruahine Mountains to the Kaweka Ranges. The terrain is highly diverse, transitioning from mountains and inland areas to the coast, and further to the Heretaunga Plains, creating richly varied landforms. Wide rivers rush through the landscape before meeting the blue Pacific Ocean. The twin cities of Napier and Hastings are the main population centers.
