Orana Wildlife Park

Orana Wildlife Park is located in the suburbs of Christchurch, Canterbury Region, and was established in 1976. Covering an area of 80 hectares, it is New Zealand’s only fully open zoo, dedicated to providing a natural wild environment for endangered animals and birds.

The dense jungles, vast wilderness, bubbling streams, and towering rocks at Orana Wildlife Park create the most natural habitat for animals. Over 400 animals and birds of more than 70 species live here. The park houses New Zealand’s largest aviary, which is home to native endangered bird species — you can even see the kiwi, New Zealand’s national bird. Visitors can feed giraffes, touch white rhinos, and admire cheetahs, the fastest land mammals on Earth. Feeding times for animals are strictly scheduled, so it’s best to plan ahead.

Orana Wildlife Park is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, with the last admission at 4:30 PM. It is open year-round except for Christmas Day.
