Yaldhurst Museum

The Yaldhurst Museum is located in the suburb of Yaldhurst in Christchurch, near Christchurch International Airport. Established in 1968 by Jake Cooper, it is a museum dedicated to road transport and houses a large collection of classic cars.

Jake Cooper began collecting various types of vehicles in 1950 and started constructing the museum in 1963, finally opening it to the public in 1968. The museum's collection includes cars, racing cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, horse-drawn carriages, bicycles, tractors, agricultural machinery, stationary engines, fire engines, and military vehicles. The horse-drawn carriages in the museum were collected from the South Island of New Zealand, totaling 119, with the oldest dating back to 1810. These include two-wheeled gigs, lightweight two-wheelers, four-wheeled tourers, milk carts, and covered wagons. There are approximately 160 cars on display, such as Austin, Ford, Wolseley, and Chrysler models. In addition to the carriages and cars, the museum’s bicycles and motorcycles are also noteworthy.

The Yaldhurst Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, year-round except for Christmas Day and the entire month of June. For group visits, extended hours are available from 17:00 to 21:00.
