IntroductionMount Eden is an extinct volcano, formed 20,000–30,000 years ago. It stands 196 meters high and is the tallest volcano in Auckland’s volcanic field, as well as one of the city’s most important symbols. The lava erupted from the volcano covered an area of nearly six square kilometers, including what is now the Newmarket district. The amount of lava emitted totaled 160 million cubic meters—enough to fill 32,400 Olympic-sized swimming pools.　 　TransportationLocated approximately 5 kilometers south of central Auckland.
