Auckland Harbour Bridge

The Auckland Harbour Bridge spans Waitematā Harbour. Construction began in 1954 and was completed in 1959. At 1,020 metres long, it is the longest road bridge on the North Island and the second-longest road bridge in New Zealand. The bridge's longest span is 243 metres, and its lowest point is 43 metres above the water. Each day, a high volume of traffic crosses the bridge, with approximately 165,000 vehicles passing daily.

Since its completion, the bridge has become an iconic landmark of Auckland. Resembling a majestic, soaring dragon, its impressive structure is a visual delight. At night, the Auckland Harbour Bridge takes on an especially enchanting appearance, illuminated by lights that highlight its graceful curves, leaving observers in awe of the architects’ remarkable skill. The bridge is also known for suicides, with a number of people ending their lives there each year, making it one of Auckland’s notorious suicide spots.
