Auckland Zoo was established in 1922, covering an area of 16 hectares. It is a zoo that integrates education, research, and conservation. It is the largest zoo in New Zealand and one of the most advanced zoos in the world.

Auckland Zoo is home to 138 species and over 860 animals and birds. The zoo is divided into different sections based on the regions the animals come from, making it easy for visitors to locate the animals they want to see. Animals in the zoo include Asian elephants, lizards, sea lions, tigers, peacocks, red pandas, quokkas, chimpanzees, American alligators, meerkats, and more. They live freely in their own paradise, paying no attention to visitors as they run and play in their peaceful habitat.

Auckland Zoo also features a dedicated nocturnal zoo, allowing visitors to observe animals in their nighttime environment. In addition, it provides specialized educational areas for primary and secondary school students to help them learn more about animals, understand them, and support their conservation.
