Auckland Town Hall

Auckland Town Hall is a historic building located on Queen Street in downtown Auckland. Construction began in 1909, and it was completed and opened in 1911. It is well known for its grand auditorium and concert hall.

Auckland Town Hall and its surrounding area have been designated as a heritage precinct by the Auckland Council and are highly protected. It is one of the most outstanding buildings on Queen Street, designed by architects from Melbourne. The Town Hall has five floors and makes full use of the available land and space, serving as an administrative and recreational hub in Auckland’s early history. Its auditorium can accommodate 1,673 people and is considered one of the best-sounding halls in the world. The pipe organ inside the Town Hall dates back to 1911 and is the largest musical instrument in the region. Illuminated, it becomes even more magnificent and dazzling.

A Chinese mythological stage play adapted from Chinese folklore was once performed at Auckland Town Hall and was widely loved by New Zealand parents and children.
