Museum of Transport Technology

The Museum of Transport Technology is located in the Western Springs area of Auckland, near Auckland Zoo. Established in 1960 and opened to the public in 1964, it is New Zealand’s largest museum dedicated to transport, technology, and social history, housing a vast collection of rare and precious artifacts.

The Museum of Transport Technology was built on the site of a former pumping station that supplied water to Auckland. It features an extensive collection of both civilian and military aircraft as well as various types of transport vehicles, which can be divided into six main categories: aviation collection, railway locomotive collection, passenger car collection, coal wagon collection, petrol/diesel vehicle collection, and trolleybus collection. Specific items include trains, tram tracks, coal wagons, vintage tractors, horse-drawn carriages, cars, buses, trucks, fire engines, electrical equipment, airplanes, rockets, and more, offering visitors insight into the development of New Zealand’s transport industry.

The museum’s trams operate daily, taking visitors on a ride that passes by Western Springs Park and Auckland Zoo. Visitors interested can experience the historic charm of these old trams during the ride.
