Introduction

The Museum of Tea Ware is a branch of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, located in Hong Kong Park. It primarily displays various Chinese tea ware artifacts. The museum has a two-story exhibition space divided into six thematic areas.

Built in 1846, it was originally the Commander of the Forces Officers' Quarters of the Victoria Barracks. It was first occupied by Major-General D'Aguilar, the then Commander of British Forces in Hong Kong. In 1981, it became a museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting various types of tea ware. The former residence was also renovated and opened to the public at the end of 1983. The museum houses nine exhibition rooms displaying fine examples of Yixing teaware from the Ming, Qing, and early Republican periods, as well as introducing the teaware production process. Antique Chinese teawares are also exhibited here. In 1995, the Museum of Tea Ware added a new wing called the Flagstaff House Museum of Teaware. The new wing mainly showcases exhibits donated by Mr. Lo Kwee-seong, a renowned Hong Kong collector of tea ware artifacts, making it a must-visit destination.

In addition to exhibitions, the Museum of Tea Ware regularly hosts various tea art activities, pottery demonstrations, and lectures to promote Chinese tea culture and ceramic art. These events attract visitors from around the world, making it one of Hong Kong’s major tourist attractions. Additionally, visitors can purchase premium-quality teas while admiring the tea ware and ceramics.
